When Covid regulations loosened up earlier this year, we were all happy to say goodbye to our masks. Some people may have tossed them, others burned them. However, with the surge in Covid cases related to the more contagious Delta variant, we are seeing a resurgence of mask mandates. For weeks, the highly infectious Delta variant has dominated headlines, as it now makes up more than 80% of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. That’s a rapid increase from just 50% in early July.
Now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in areas of quote “substantial or high transmission.” end quote. If you lost or threw away your mask, it might be time to get a new one for the fall season when we will start spending more time indoors. One of the most recommended masks is the N95 or a variation of that called KN95. They filter out 95% of tiny particles, but the N95 is held to a higher standard. 1. Public Indoor Mask
The CDC recommends non-valved, multilayer cloth masks or non-medical disposable masks for community use. This mask is designed to be worn constantly while being comfortable without having to adjust.
These masks are usually on the thicker side.
2. Outdoor Mask
This mask would be a bit thinner than the indoor mask as there's less chance of exposure outside. Additionally being outside usually means walking or more activity, so having a thinner more breathable mask would be more comfortable.
3. Athletic Mask
These masks are often the best option for physical activity. They are breathable and usually made of some sort of sweat-wicking material. Under Armour UA Sportmask and the Outdoor Research Adrenaline Sports Face Mask are two of the most popular.
